Shannon and Bob’s Romantic Fall Engagement Photoshoot in Amsterdam

A woman stands by autumn trees on a canal at golden hour, next to two boats in Amsterdam.

We planned an Amsterdam couple’s session for the fall, but after a proposal earlier in their vacation, Shannon and Bob let me know that we’d be celebrating with an engagement photo shoot instead! As you can imagine, this was such a joy-filled, romantic, and beautifully autumnal photography session. It was such an honor to capture this milestone for the happy couple, and the early evening light over the Amsterdam canals just added to the fall vibes and romance of our photos!

In their Own Words: How this couple felt about their Amsterdam Engagement Photoshoot

“I loved working with you because you were so sweet and made us feel at ease. You gave great guidance for posing and got to know us as a couple. I most appreciated you asking about what PDA we were most comfortable with during the shoot. I felt like you wanted our input to help guide your creative vision for our shoot. Your positive feedback and encouragement during the shoot made us feel comfortable and beautiful.”

– Shannon and Bob

How they described their relationship to me:

warm • loving • cozy

(I love to use these descriptions to understand how my couples naturally interact with each other, and inform what kinds of things I might ask them to do during our shoot!)

Fall Engagement Photo Shoot Route:

We met at my favorite spot for romantic evening photo shoots in central Amsterdam: The Brouwersgracht Canal. From there, I had a short walking route planned that would take us towards the Jordaan and give us some great shots of color changing trees, canals, beautiful golden hour light cutting through the buildings, and of course some cozy spots to cuddle at together along the way without too many people around.

How a Romantic Amsterdam Couple’s Session turned into an Engagement Photoshoot

Shannon and Bob were planning to come to Amsterdam on a family vacation, and wanted to make some time for activities as a couple too! When Shannon reached out, she let me know they’d love to capture some memories of the two of them together in Amsterdam, and I was so thrilled to provide that for them.

And then, in a lovely turn of events, when I checked in with Shannon a few days before our scheduled photo session, she let me know that Bob had decided to propose at the beginning of their trip! Such an exciting email to get, and such an exciting change in our plans!

They both showed up beaming (of course!), and we turned our session into an engagement photoshoot that they would use both to treasure this memory and to announce it to their loved ones, too.

Photo Shoot Outfits:

Shannon showed up in a beautiful midi-length button-down dress in a light nude color, with strappy black heels. Bob wore black pants, brown leather shoes, and a plaid flannel shirt with accents that complemented the color of Shannon’s dress. Their outfits went together well without being matchy-matchy at all, and they looked great against the fall Amsterdam backdrop!

My Favorite Moments and Details from our Session:

Hearing that our romantic couple’s photo shoot was going to turn into an engagement session just made my day!! These two were just so happy together the whole way through, and they absolutely brought their cozy, cuddly vibe with them to this shoot. It gave me so much joy to see their ease together as a couple, and I love the way that feeling came through in our photos. Plus, the timing was perfect for those gorgeous autumn leaves!
